GROUP DISCUSSION & BRAINSTORMING

Group Discussion is a combination of two words namely Group and Discussion. It is a process in which exchange of ideas and views takes place between group of individuals in a face to face and live setting to assess the overall personality and checking the thoughts & behavior of an individual. Group discussion is an important tool that is widely used to check the skills and also in the selection process. It is generally seen in the selection for a management positions. All the participants are divided into groups and are given topics of discussion and the time limit is set to discuss them. The selectors observe all the participants and based on their observation the best out of the group of candidates is selected. Group discussion helps in revealing the true personality of the candidates and gives them the opportunity to reflect their skills. The candidates uses their personality, academic knowledge, leadership skills, communication skills, team work abilities and host of other skills to portray their positive image or their take on any given topic. Brainstorming on the other hand is probably the most widely used method in which groups of individuals comes together to generate ideas about some issue or a problem.
